This week it seems topical and appropriate to talk about taboo – now that Tumblr and other platforms are tightening up on any content which they consider taboo (and sheesh are they prudish?!!) I can’t even pretend to know much about this cos I don’t have an account. Epiphora discusses narrow minded thinking and Molly shares an explanatory post of the censorship implications by Michael who is also offering help to sex bloggers who need to protect themselves by changing platform, provider and going self hosted, something I definitely plan on doing.
At Eroticon 2018 Madeline Morris urged us to write on taboo topics but advised that our modern way of life had slightly shifted what was considered taboo – although murder, incest and underage sex are perennial. However images of bodies of all shapes and sizes – surely these are not taboo? Can’t we just appreciate them?
The ban is not – at the moment – affecting erotic text. But once the ‘Judgey Clan‘ get to work, it’s only a matter of time before that is threatened and likely to come under their unforgiving scrutiny so bloggers need to protect ourselves – the erotica writers and those who create lifestyle and opinion pieces.
Don’t even get me started on Shadow Banning which Twitter does high handedly and for hard-to-define reasons – the thinking is that ‘bots’ rather than people are shutting down Twitter profiles for what they deem inappropriate pictures or words, yet cannot differentiate between images of naked flesh and undulating sand dunes!

My final, down to earth post is by my friend & mentor Miss Jezebella who wonders why we consider certain styles/types/items sexy rather than just being relaxed and confident in our natural bodies, and up for initiating sex or pleasuring ourselves. Now that’s a strong, wise message!
My #SoSS star this week is the lovely A_M_Harding who’s erotica I’ve explored and followed for a year now, and who has helped me with advice on my writing on occasion. I asked him for his thoughts on taboo and he shared them via his blog this morning. I’m sure you’ll find Andy as interesting as I do, so read on.
- What made you decide to write a sex blog?
I’ve tried writing in many different genres and always end up coming back to two – Sci-Fi and Erotica. Science fiction will always be my first love for reading and I know I’ll come back to writing in it at some point, probably for a novel.
Erotica however, is just so much fun to write, particularly for flash fiction. It gives me a chance to relive memories and blend them with fantasies, to explore things I do, or would like to, indulge in. I believe that my erotica is unlikely to go beyond flash fiction, anything that goes beyond 5000 words tends to lose the heat and passion that I like to create.
- What’s behind the title of your blog or your blogging “name”?
My blog is the best name I could find to match the writing I post there. “A shot of Erotica” mixes my erotic flash fiction (stories up to about 2000 words) with a hint of my favourite drink, espresso, which is a complete cup of coffee with all of the unnecessary filler removed, concentrated into a small but very intense experience. That is exactly how I like to write my erotica, short, sharp, packed with sensation and guaranteed to make your pulse race.
As for my blogging name, there are a number of reasons for the name but I’m embarrassed to admit there is a very immature reason behind part of the choice. I wanted something that sounded risque or rude. In the end I settled on “A.M. Harding” or “am hard ing”.
- Describe your blog in a nutshell:
I post flash fiction, erotic stories distilled down into short and very intense scenes. Everything on the blog is written by me, for me.
- How long have you been blogging on this theme?
Around 5 years. This is my second blog, but both have been fundamentally similar, this one has a better name though.
- What is your favourite type of adult toy?
Does a hand count? I generally prefer skin on skin contact over a toy but there is a time and place for everything and it’s good to experiment.
- If you were sent to a desert island (with no power issues) name the 1 adult toy you’d take with you:
- What’s your current sexuality? At what age did you realise this was the right ‘fit’ for you?
Very dull I’m afraid, definitely straight. I’ve always been drawn irresistibly to women, men just don’t interest me. Even my friends have typically been women through most of my life.
- What’s your preference – naked or “dressed up” for sex? If dressed up, how so?
Naked. I’m very tactile and like to touch and kiss my way around a body. I intensely dislike nylon, especially tights. Stockings can be nice if only because of the sudden transition to skin. That’s where they get interesting.
- Is there a kink or fantasy you’re yearning to try?
I think it would have to revolve around multiple partners, maybe a good old fashioned orgy. That would allow me to free my inner exhibitionist amongst other things.
- Name the fictional being or species you’d most like to have an encounter with:
Interesting question! It would have to be a strong and intelligent woman, preferably one with a huge libido and a kinky streak. Got it, “Jiggles”. You’ll have to look that one up on Amazon but if you want funny, entertaining erotic fiction it’s worth a look. I absolutely loved that character.
- Sex needn’t always be serious – do you have a funny moment to share?
I remember an occasion in my reckless youth, late teens if I remember rightly. I was out for a drive with a girlfriend, well, more of a friend with benefits (before we knew the phrase). We stopped in a forest car park that we thought was deserted. It was pitch black and very quiet so we clambered into the back seats and proceeded to strip. Just as she climbed onto my lap we heard a car drive onto the gravel and a flashing blue light switched on. The police drove around the car park, illuminating the 4 other cars parked there and giving us all heart attacks before simply driving out again by which time we were dressed. That rather killed the mood!
- Sexting – love it or hate it?
You’d think that since I love writing sex laden stories I would be into this but I don’t think it’s my thing. I’m leaning towards hate it.
- Which mainstream film depicts your favourite erotic scene?
I’d pick a TV series rather than a film. Californication. That had so many scenes that worked for me, mostly those in super risky locations.
- Do you watch porn?
I don’t enjoy commercial porn at all, it’s just too fake and does absolutely nothing for me. I prefer home made or amateur material, it has to be real to be interesting.
- Nominate your favourite adult film:
That would probably have to be one from the poor quality videotapes that I found hidden in my house as a teenager. They were my first exposure (we didn’t have the internet then) and stuck with me despite being laughably bad when you look back on them. I’ll pick the one that started it all – Deepthroat.
- Before you go, please tell us 1 adult blog (aside from yours) which we must add to our reading list:
Other than this blog, which you are already reading I would pick https://exposing40.wordpress.com/
Her photography is superb and the creativity of her body positive images is brilliant.
Posy says: “Ahh thank you Andy, that’s a kind mention for my blog and I totally agree about the wonderful photographs and attitude exposing40 shares.”
Thank you so much for sharing your more ‘private’ side with me and my Dark Darlings!
