Hello my Dark Darlings,
I have felt quite busy with reading and writing this week, so I want to cast these jewels before you. Also to introduce you to a great blogger whose writing I admire, and now we get to know a little more about her. Read and enjoy and please (in the spirit of #ShareOurShitSaturday) share the links on.
In which Dr Kate Lister reveals the origins and varying usage of the word ‘whore’ and urges us to take it back and wear it as a badge of honour (the replies to her piece are very interesting too! I quote one:
Deborah Halstead (Lennon) 4/16/2017 07:00:27 AM
Back in the early 90s, I submitted the following redefinitions:
A BITCH is an ASSERTIVE Woman
A WITCH is a Woman with KNOWLEDGE
A DYKE is a STRONG Woman
A WHORE is a Woman who ENJOYS HER SEXUALITY (including celibacy).
I pointed out at the time, that all of these attributes are celebrated in men, and that women should be proud when such terms were applied to them, to hold their heads high and say “Thank You for the compliment.” to turn the insults back around.
P.S. I recently heard a new definition for the word ‘cunt’ that may interest you “Can’t Understand Normal Thinking”. If we define ‘normal’ as that accepted by the dominant society, we can in turn interpret the word ‘cunt’ to mean ‘rebel’.
- What made you decide to write a sex blog?
A couple of things led to me starting my blog. Firstly, I was a borderline obsessive user of the Lovehoney forum. My name and avi constantly dominated the first few pages as it seemed I had more to say about sex than every other user put together.
Sex has been such a fascination of mine since I first discovered it existed and nobody I knew, even online at the time, could match my passion for sex talk. Secondly, I had just come out of a relationship that was too short and crap to justify my pain. It made me realise my life was lacking in purpose and the hurt was more about the emptiness I was left with. So, with persuasion from a friend, I went for it and have never looked back.
- What’s behind the title of your blog or your blogging “name”?
When I was 14 and creating a profile on FaceWhore (I doubt anyone remembers that one), the same friend mentioned above suggested MorningGlory as a username. As 14 year olds pretending to be sexually knowledgeable do… The username stuck with me though as I joined different social media platforms and forums. Aurora Glory was an upgrade, with Aurora being the Roman goddess of dawn. It honestly feels more ‘me’ than my birth name now.
- Describe your blog in a nutshell:
Currently my blog is dominated by sex toy reviews because I have this problem where I just can’t say no to sex toys. It has areas for kink, sex ed, erotica and photography, but they’re all very much neglected right now. I desperately hope that won’t always be the case.
- How long have you been blogging on this theme?
I started my blog in October 2016, so am coming up to my two year blogiversary. It really feels like it’s been forever though. It recently occured to me that I’ll probably never tire of sex toy reviewing, as I’ve been doing that for over 5 years and still absolutely love it.
- What is your favourite type of adult toy?
Ooo that’s tough. I have to say a bullet vibe because I can’t orgasm without one, but my heart belongs to the kink stuff. I swear I actually tingle with excitement just looking at my kink drawers.
- If you were sent to a desert island (with no power issues) name the 1 adult toy you’d take with you:
Up until a few months ago I’d have joined the chorus of people singing the praises of the We Vibe Tango. That was until I tried the Noje W1, which has completely replaced it as my go-to vibe. So much so that I haven’t set eyes on my Tango since the Noje came into my life.
- What’s your current sexuality? At what age did you realise this was the right ‘fit’ for you?
Well, I’m 28 and I still have absolutely no idea. If someone asks I generally say I’m heterosexual, as what I’m attracted to is masculinity. But, what bits they have down their pants or how they identify is completely irrelevant… So arguably not entirely hetero?
- What’s your preference – naked or “dressed up” for sex? If dressed up, how so?
Most definitely dressed up, in what most companies would put in their fetish wear departments. Something tight, black and so revealing I really might as well not be wearing it.
- Is there a kink or fantasy you’re yearning to try?
There are a lot. I sometimes think my kink is just trying new kinks. Mostly, right now, I just fantasise about having intense sexual chemistry with someone. It’s been a long time and I miss the feeling.
- Name the fictional being or species you’d most like to have an encounter with:
I guess I’ll have to admit I’m extremely boring and don’t have one. I’m not especially into fiction *hangs head in shame*
- Anal sex – Meh or Yay?
I mostly feel meh about anal. I want to love it because it’s damn hot, but I just don’t. Very occasionally I’m all for it, but it’s pretty rare.
- Sex needn’t always be serious – do you have a funny moment to share?
I have an extremely immature sense of humour, so I’m probably very much on my own with what I find funny. The most I remember laughing during sex was when I seductively used an edible body paint on my partner, to reveal a chocolate painting of poop. I found it so hilarious I was crying… You see what I mean about my sense of humour?
- Sexting – love it or hate it?
I adore sexting! I love using words to get off and when they’re the words of someone I’m into, even better!
- Which mainstream film depicts your favourite erotic scene?
There’s a pretty memorable scene in 300: Rise of an empire, it’s hot and rough and full of emotion. Total yum.
- Do you watch porn?
Nope, I’m all about the fantasies.
- Nominate your favourite adult film:
I’ve never watched an adult film, so I have absolutely no idea.
- Before you go, please tell us 1 adult blog (aside from yours) which we must add to our reading list:
There are so many amazing sex blogs and so many sex bloggers I admire, so this is almost impossible! But, the blog I’m drawn to most at the moment is FlossDoesLife. Simply because, aside from being awesome, her blog focuses on the things I’m personally really interested in right now. She’s also a fantastic writer, who is inclusive, genuine and knowledgeable. And I love her podcast too, of course.
